TASTING NOTES
COLOUR: Green/pale straw.
AROMA: The wine has a lovely freshness about it with lemon zest, crystalline lemon, straw and nettle to the fore with brioche, marzipan and nutmeg oak spice in a supporting role.
PALATE: The front palate is silky and instantly mouth filling with lemon, spice and juicy acidity. The wine has great tension and length carried by coiled acidity that leads to a back palate of baked lemon tart and fresh grated nutmeg.

CELLARING: My style of winemaking and the quality of the fruit that made this wine will reward cellaring of 5 - 15 years.
The fruit for this wine was hand harvested off the stunning clay soils of Cowley Vineyard, located in Marlborough's Southern Valleys. After a quick trip to Picton it was transported to our Clevedon winery overnight by ferry and refrigerated truck, arriving within 24hrs at approx. 4 degrees. The fruit was whole bunch pressed to 100% French oak, 50% new. I prefer wild ferment for my Basket Case Wines for style, texture and intrigue. The wine matures for 15 months on yeast lees with partial MLF (no stirring) and another 12 months in bottle before being released.
