TASTING NOTES
COLOUR: Delicate Crimson
AROMA: Beautiful and quite transparent on the nose. Delicate with coiled energy. Red cherry, wild red berries, bergamot, rose petal and hints of mushroom and savoury earth.
PALATE: The palate is well balance with silky tannins, sour cherry, bergamot and spice, a coiled energy with elegant and persistent length
CELLARING: My style of winemaking and the quality of the fruit that made this wine will reward cellaring of 5 - 12 years.
The fruit for this wine was hand harvested off the stunning clay soils of Cowley Vineyard, located in Marlborough's Southern Valleys. After a quick trip to Picton it was transported to our Clevedon winery overnight by ferry and refrigerated truck, arriving within 24hrs at approx. 4 degrees. The fruit was de-stemmed by hand with 5% whole bunch for tension and complexity. This year the fruit lent towards a more restrained, elegant style. Ferment lasted 8 days with the wine on skins for a total of 17 days. During this time the cap was plunged only 3 times resulting in a wine of light colour, yet an abundance of energy and power. The wine was pressed to 100% French oak, 33% new.
